Can you prove the bible is false?

  • Luke

For those who do not believe: do not fight religion and say God or Gods don’t exist because simply we do not know. Besides if religion is wrong it certainly gives people hope when they need it. For those who do believe: Do not taunt the ones who do not believe in religion by posting something like this and that goes vice versa for the people who do not believe. Religion should be welcoming not something that fights its outsiders.

    • Ben Kenobi

“…do not fight religion and say God or Gods don’t exist because simply we do not know.”

Surely you don’t mean to suggest that we have no inkling whatsoever of what might differentiate a natural, ordered Cosmos from an incomprehensible realm infested with magic and subject to the caprice of supernatural beings. You may feel ambivalent towards that abstract and ephemeral God-with-a-capital-G, but I assume you aren’t agnostic when it comes to Thor or Odin. Or maybe you are. I mean, he MIGHT be the one, true Sky-Father. Or maybe that’s Zeus I’m thinking of… No wait, it’s Marduk, the Sun God of ancient Babylon. He could very well be watching over us right now from his seat on that mysterious ball of fire in our sky. Who knows?

      • A.Lee

i think it’s funny that people think it’s more plausible for one all powerful, all good being to control absolutely everything than having multiple gods controlling different things. they are so quick to call greek and egyptian beliefs myths, but their one god is definitely no myth. i really hope people at some point will wake up and see how ridiculous and blind they are really being.

    • http://slrman.wordpress.com James Smith

You are saying everyone should condone religion despite all the harm it does in the world?  Saying we simply do not know isn’t true.  The evidence for unicorns is better than that for any god.

Religion should be held to the same standards as any other business.  Pay taxes, be responsible to truth in advertising, and liable for damages.

Just because you cant prove something does not exist does not meen that it does. Thats like asking someone to prove that santa claus does not exist; and if thay cant? then its official, hes real. Athiests and agnostics work threw reson and fact not false interpritations. so next time you try to “trick” someone into changing there baliefs first make shore you know your own. because if you realy new about it its not about people, places and events and there truthfullness that the bible is etemting to project, its morals.
    1) i can tell a fictitious story that takes plase in a real city.
    2) the people in that story could be real.
    3) i can tell a story about a true event and have fake people
the point is not the facts but the story in itself.

    • http://twitter.com/jwjenkin Jeremy Jenkins

god doesn’t know spell-check, does he? Also, facts…you know, I’m not gonna get into this…because this is seriously just ridiculous…

      • Debora Ellsworth

I don’t think I could do any worse if I tried. Unbeleivable.

      • A.Lee

although he has a bit of a spelling problem, you are so arrogant as to correct his spelling and not pay attention as to what is being said. he does have a point so look at that and not just how it is presented.

  • steve

Luke you are quite delusional, you can say that religion gives people hope but you can also say that its been the number one contributor to the majority of wars that have existed through time, the millions of people who have died because they don’t agree on the same imaginary deity,oh yeah, and the mass delusion of society. Religion is like racism it has to be taught, everyone is born an atheist.
“and in the beginning man created god”

    • goddammit

As a fellow atheist I disagree with your conlusion that everyone is born an atheist. I believe most people are born with the predisposition to seek and find answers to the question of where we come from and why we are here. Without education, scientific knowledge and analytical thinking, we make up answers as needed to fill in the gaps. With education, scientific knowledge and analytical thinking (which has to be taught, of course — you and I can’t from birth know how to build a microscope), individuals find real answers and in doing so discover new questions. This is why atheism is on the rise in (most of) the Western World: greater education. It’s also why religion is on the rise in many parts of America, whose system of education is falling apart as the greedy right continues to pump money away from public education and into private religious schools.

      • A.Lee

i think what he meant was agnostic instead of atheist lol.

        • Uhno

If a person does not believe in any gods then they are indesputably an atheists. Newborns do not believe in gods. Newborns would have to claim that they don’t know if a god exists in order to be agnostics.

Can you pass the same test regarding the Koran? What about the Bhagevadghita?

      I believe so…

  • Fyrehed

Pigeons… very fitting. I used to refer to religious-types as Bobble-heads–you can always spot them in a crowd by the way they’ll over-enthusiastically nod at any reference to god or religion.

  • http://slrman.wordpress.com James Smith

I have proven that many things in the babble are false, including that there is no evidence that jesus ever existed.

I have also shown that, while some historical events, places, and dates can be confirmed that doesn’t make any of the rest of it true.  For example:

On the 11th of September, 2001, two commercial aircraft flew into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing thousands.

Some people believe that this was an act of terrorism by an Islamic fundamentalist organization.

It was really the power of my god (he who must not be named) directing those planes to warn the people of the USA and the world to abandon their wicked ways and praise the only true god.

The first sentence is unquestionable historic fact.  The last sentence is a delusional lie but is impossible to prove to be false.   The “truth” of all “holy books” is based upon this same technique.

  • ???

Brainwashed bible-thumpers, can you PROVE evolution is false? Can you prove humans did not evolve from apes? Can you prove life do not start in the prehistoric primordial ooze? All you have to do is prove ONE of these is false, and I’ll believe your fairy tale about how a magical all-powerful being nobody has ever seen simply claped his hands and poofed everything into existence.

    • Kat

Actually, humans evolved along with apes. If you look at an updated phylogenetic tree, you’ll see that human aren’t even at the end of the branch. Just sayin’ . . .

      • A.Lee

as far as they can tell for now. we aren’t going to be 100% sure for a while so we should quit arguing about that aspect. how about the fact that every strong religion to have existed, all have extremely similar patterns, all based on constellations and the position of the sun? christianity, when compared to, say, egyptian “mythology” there are too many similarities to not question the basis of any religion out there. let’s get out there and actually educate ourselves instead of saying what we think is true because someone told us so!

    More facts……

    “MACRO” evolution is unproven speculation.

“MACRO” evolution was and remains a theoretical
attempt to explain the origin / creation of species through natural selection and
is not supported by the fossil record. Among the fossils, no observations have
ever been made concerning any species evolving into a completely new, different
or unique species. Anyone who claims there is verifiable scientific evidence
for “MACRO” evolution is therefore a propagandist, to put it
    politely.

The term “Natural Selection” is a misnomer, when
used in reference to the origin (creation) of species. Nature can only select
from life-forms which exist (“life-form” = the characteristic morphology
of a mature, existing organism). “Nature” can not select a non-existent
life-form from nothing. A species genome
already contains the extant genetic variations available for nature to select
from, rather like an artist’s palette of basic colours offers myriad choices,
mixtures and combinations – millions of hues, tints and shades – while not
offering any possibility of the development of any entirely new, basic colours.

The process of Natural Selection favours and protects the
biological systems which ALREADY exist. No NEW genetic or biological
information is produced or created by Natural Selection. Natural Selection
prevents MACRO-evolution, preventing NEW phyla-level species, while permitting
those species which ALREADY exist to MICRO-evolve with small changes within
    existing species.

Species must first exist in order to be “Naturally
Selected” – otherwise you are simply talking about the same unexplainable
“magic” attributed to super-natural creation by the God of Abraham.
So, if someone is willing to believe in Nature’s accomplishing pure magic in
creating new and unique species from out of nothing, such a believer in
“Miracles” should also be able to accept similar “magic” being
accomplished by a creator-God, who truly rules.

Einstein appreciated this, as did very many other renowned
scientists and as do an ever-growing number of scientists today. “Firmly denying atheism, Einstein
expressed his belief in ‘Spinoza’s God, who reveals Himself in the harmony of
what exists.’ This actually motivated his interest in science, as he once
remarked to a young physicist: “I want to know how God created this world.
I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that
element. I want to know His thoughts, the rest are details.” (source: Encyclopaedia Britannica). Einstein was a true thinker.

Wildly jabbering incoherent nonsense might indeed make one
sound and look like an ape, as is the manner of many on this discussion forum, but
this is not proof that we have descended from apes or monkeys, not one stitch
of evidence having ever been found to suggest that this is the case.

    • Mike

      Easypeasy:

No Archaeologist has ever discovered mention of the Jews living in, or leaving Egypt in any ancient Egyptian writings, especially a mass exodus of such led by a man named Moses. And the ancient Egyptians were, relative to other ancient civilizations, excellent record-keepers.

      • A.Lee

exactly. and you wouldn’t be able to prove macro evolution if you are looking for micro evolution because they would look like a completely different species. i’m not saying it does happen but you can’t prove it doesn’t because you’d have to look at the big picture to be able to tell. and i don’t even know where you are getting “natural selection can work if there are no species to select” from. obviously natural selection occurs as species become extinct because they aren’t fit enough to survive the changing of the world.

    • goddammit

But you are an atheist like I. The only difference is that I believe in one less god than you. (Anyone have the real quote and source for this?)

    • Kat

      “Natural Selection
prevents MACRO-evolution, preventing NEW phyla-level species, while permitting
those species which ALREADY exist to MICRO-evolve with small changes within
      existing species.”

This is so false I can’t even argue against it. I just have to shake my head in disbelief.

    • NO One

First, evolution isn’t small changes taking place and staying over millions of years. Evolution is what we see as mutations. It is a mutation of a species that isn’t a subtle change. Many creatures die due to their mutation, but from time to time a mutation is good and goes from there. That is evolution. That is why there isn’t bones that gradually change from one species to another. It was an abrupt change that worked and spawned a new species.

When people are born with more then 5 digits on their hands that is a mutation. This has been happening for a very long time. If lets say 2 thousand years from now everyone born has 6 digits on their hands, it would be an evolutionary change. You wouldn’t be able to look back at any record of bones and see that an extra digit had slowly started to grow over the past 2k years.

That’s what allot of people don’t understand with evolution. Evolution isn’t a gradual change. it is abrupt and random with allot of trial and error through mutations.

Natural selection isn’t nature choosing a species. Natural selection is actually very simple. The weak die, and the strong survive. It’s not saying nature looks at a list of species and goes “Ok, these are gone and these get to stay.” and then poof it’s done.

  • Davenr

    Facts required? Okay -

“MICRO” evolution is an applied science,
    attestable by scientific evidence.

“MICRO” evolution explains how existing species,
through a few beneficial mutations, can adapt, evolve and prosper through natural selection, and it is
corroborated both by observation and through fossil records. “MICRO”
evolution occurs within species, producing varied or different forms of a
    species.

The teaching of applied “MICRO” evolution is not
problematic for Christians. However, it needs to be clearly differentiated from
theoretical and unproven “MACRO” evolution, which is pure conjecture,
unsubstantiated by fact. Indeed, the latter is actually a religion or belief
system, which is unsupported by fact.

Christianity holds the high ground on the subject, owing to
the fact that today’s field of physics, as currently taught throughout
academia, including Christian physicists, fully conforms to the exact order of
the first ten creation events delineated in the Bible’s Book of Genesis. About
this, secular scientists and scientists who are Christians are in remarkable
    agreement.

Moreover, despite the fact that today’s physicists developed
their considered opinions on the origin of the universe (and formation of the
earth) sans scriptura, the Bible’s Book of Genesis predates modern physics
    texts by millennia.

I cant disprove anything without proper finances, if you can arrange for a budget of the same magnitude the Vatican has, i can prove that:
1: The bible was written by a board, tourettes suffering, narcissistic egomaniac who was abused by a goat and wrote the bible because it was either that or cleaning goat shit for the rest of his life.
2: The so called “god” mentioned in the Bible is actually his dad, hence the good vs bad issues.
3: He lived in the middle east, ergo he might have been Persian, Syrian, Israeli, Egyptian etc.
4: monkeys can fly planes blindfolded better than humans.
5:people who can light their farts are what the bible refers to as angels.
6: aliens have been playing jokes on humans since the beginning of time (e.g. the Nasca lines).
7: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism etc. are well aware that religion is bullshit but they keep up the ruse because they would be unemployed and poor otherwise.
8: Basically i can prove anything you like, it all depends how much funding is available.

to sum this up, Atheism is not about proving or disproving anything its about making up your own mind, not having your beliefs dictated to you by a book full of someones fantasies, or some nutty insane priest gone crazy from abstinence.
To be truly free you should make up your own religion based on an educated self inquiry, but hey, you don’t have to take my word, take your own.
Oh, one last thing, GOD told me that there is no such thing as Blasphemy, its just a way of shutting up people who actually have a point, and that he will be away on vacation in the Bahamas until 3073 A.D, so good luck getting your prayers answered. His official replacement at this time is a millepede named Fred who lives in Britney spears garden, and he asked for no prayers on Sunday, he has it reserved for watching “Survivor” on his big screen.

hahaha. the only thing i’d really say about all this is that i wouldn’t add buddhism to that list of religions because they honestly don’t collect money like the rest do. the only thing about buddhism thing is that they try to find peace in themselves and to live in seclusion instead of getting out there and living a full life and getting the word out there that there is more beauty to be seen than what we are currently seeing. just a thought i had.

There is no way to prove the bible false. No way, to prove that God does not exist. It is the negative. Thus un-prove-able. One cannot prove the negative. For instance… You cannot prove the world is not flat. You can only prove that it is round. Should you believe that the world is flat, evidence will prove to you that this is untrue simply because all evidence proves that the world is round-ish. I can prove that the Big Bang Theory is true. This is based on all evidence and my threshold of reality. By our own standards of reason. I challenge you to use those same standards of reason (be them how you present them) that your creation is true. In case you don’t understand the challenge, Christian Dum-Dum, Present your own logic that proves that your basis of reality is true. Again, based on your own logic. Go for it.

So I have read most of the comments below and have seen that people talk about religion as the medium between us and any god or gods out there. bullshit. religion is nothing but a lie to get you afraid for you life and used as a means of controlling you which is why the government uses it because it’s one of the most powerful tools of control over people. now i’m not saying that you shouldn’t believe in a god but don’t succumb to the same exact beliefs of others because it may provide some feeling of comfort. be comforted by your own beliefs and choose your beliefs off of what you think is evident and don’t conform to a religion because none is right. just have your own faith, wherever you can find it, and live a life that you personally believe is a full life. i’m just fucking tired of religion and everyone saying theirs is right and everyone should follow them or die a terrible death and burn an eternity in the worst place imaginable. doesn’t sound like the kind of thing an omniscient, completely benevolent being would do. besides all of that, religion is there to make us believe that absolute everything about the creation of everything is about human life. how arrogant is that? out of every single planetary system, star system, galaxy and everything, it is all about us. hmmm, i don’t think so, tim. pick up a real book like Ishmael or 1984 and educate yourself instead of letting others control what you think.
